Rugby League News: Rabbitohs Seek New Head Coach, Adrian Lam Emerges as Potential Candidate
In a surprising turn of events, the South Sydney Rabbitohs have parted ways with head coach Jason Demitriou following a disappointing start to the NRL season. The Rabbitohs currently sit rock-bottom of the league table with just four points, including two earned during their bye week, and a staggering -136 points difference.
The search for a new coach is now underway, and legendary commentator Andrew Voss has suggested that Leigh Leopards’ Adrian Lam could be a potential candidate for the job. Voss noted that with the recent visit of South Sydney’s football manager, Mark Ellison, to England, and the impending arrival of St Helens’ Lewis Dodd, there may be more to the trip than just a single player signing.
“I can’t help but think that Adrian Lam is in the mix to come back to Australia, and if I’m joining the dots, those dots lead straight to South Sydney,” Voss said on his SEN Breakfast radio show.
Lam’s credentials and experience make him an intriguing option for the Rabbitohs. The Australian has enjoyed success as an assistant coach with the national team and has done an impressive job with the Leigh Leopards in the Super League. Voss believes Lam’s tenure with the Leopards, a club on the rise, demonstrates that he is “ready for an Australian gig.”
“He didn’t just join one of the powerhouse clubs. He joined a club on the way up, but to achieve what he has at Leigh Leopards means that I think Adrian Lam now has runs on the board,” Voss explained.
With the Rabbitohs’ struggles this season and the departure of Sam Burgess last year, the club is in need of a fresh start. Lam’s expertise, familiarity with the Australian game, and his successful spell with the Leopards could make him an appealing choice to lead the Rabbitohs in their quest to turn things around.
