Gareth Ellis Returns to Hull FC, Bolstering Club’s Performance Department
April 27, 2024 – After a brief hiatus, club legend Gareth Ellis is making a homecoming to Hull FC, rejoining the team’s performance department. The 42-year-old retired forward, who spent over a decade with the Black and Whites both on and off the field, has signed a three-year deal, marking Richie Myler’s first key hire as the club’s new Director of Rugby.
Ellis’ appointment is expected to be warmly received by the loyal Hull FC fanbase, who have witnessed the team’s recent struggles. The club hopes that the respected figure’s return will help reignite the team’s spirit and identity as they embark on a new era.
“The last six months has allowed me to have some time away from the game, and now I come back with a completely fresh mind,” Ellis expressed. Acknowledging his deep-rooted connection to Hull FC, he added, “The club still holds a very special place in my heart. I still love the club. Even over the last couple of months, I’ve been watching games and shouting at the TV, which shows there’s still a great element of care there.”
Richie Myler, Hull FC’s Director of Rugby, discussed the value of Ellis’ return, highlighting the respect he commands from the playing group and his ability to help the club reconnect with its core identity. Myler commented, “As many of our loyal fans feel, Gaz is hurting about the current situation the club finds itself in. He cares deeply about what Hull FC stands for, and knows more than most what it means to pull on the black and white jersey.”
With Gareth Ellis’ homecoming, Hull FC fans will be hopeful that the club legend can help revive the team’s fortunes and guide them towards a more promising future.
