Will Pryce Embraces Opportunity to Shine in NRL with Newcastle Knights
Will Pryce, the 21-year-old English prodigy, is embracing the chance to make his mark in the NRL with the Newcastle Knights. According to his father, the legendary former Great Britain star Leon Pryce, the young player is “learning his trade” from the best players in the world as he bids to earn his place in the first team.
Pryce joined the Knights on a two-year deal alongside fellow England international Kai Pearce-Paul, who has already made an impact on the Knights’ starting lineup. While Pryce is yet to make his NRL debut, he is currently honing his skills in the reserve grade, determined to seize his opportunity.
“To go to the other side of the world, leaving your family and go into the toughest league in the world is not something for everyone,” Leon Pryce told Love Rugby League. “But he is taking a leap and having a good dig, so I am proud of him.”
Huddersfield Giants boss Ian Watson revealed last year that Pryce would be part of a long-term plan for the Knights, and his father has echoed this sentiment. “He’s just learning his trade, earning his stripes and has been going in the reserves which is a very different game in comparison to Super League,” Leon said.
Despite the challenge, Will Pryce is “loving life” in Australia and has made strong connections with his new teammates, including Bradman Best and Kai Pearce-Paul. “He has made a lot of good friends, they are a real family club and are looking after him knowing he is on the other side of the world away from his family,” Leon added.
The move to the NRL has been a positive change for Pryce, who scored 17 tries in 45 appearances for the Huddersfield Giants before making the decision to pursue his dream in the southern hemisphere. With his father’s unwavering support and a strong work ethic, Pryce is determined to make the most of his opportunity and leave his mark on the toughest rugby league competition in the world.
