Wigan Warriors Confirm Kruise Leeming Sideline with Syndesmotic Ankle Injury
Ahead of their clash with the Leigh Leopards on Friday night, Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet has confirmed that hooker Kruise Leeming will be sidelined for approximately six weeks due to a syndesmotic ankle injury.
Leeming was forced off the field during Wigan’s 36-0 victory over the London Broncos prior to the international break, after sustaining the injury in a tackle from London forward Emmanuel Waine.
“Kruise has got a Syndesmosis, so he’s probably going to be out for around the six-week mark,” Peet revealed in Wednesday’s pre-match press conference. “Other than that, I think we’re okay.”
Also known as a “high ankle sprain,” this type of injury affects the ligaments connecting the shin and ankle bones, leading to reduced joint movement, balance, stability and power. Leigh Leopards’ Louis Brogan suffered a similar issue earlier this season.
If the six-week timeframe is accurate, Leeming is likely to miss Wigan’s upcoming fixtures against Leigh, St Helens, Hull FC, Warrington Wolves, Huddersfield Giants, Leigh again, and the Leeds Rhinos. His potential return could coincide with the Warriors’ Magic Weekend clash against rivals St Helens on August 12.
In better news for Peet, centre Jake Wardle, who also picked up an ankle issue against London, has been named in the 21-man squad for Friday’s “Battle of the Borough” against Leigh and is fit to feature.
