Rugby League Roundup: Wigan Warriors Suffer Heavy Defeat to Hull KR
Wigan Warriors were no match for Hull KR at Craven Park, as the home side cruised to a 26-10 victory. The visitors had the chance to top the Super League table, but were thoroughly outclassed by a determined Hull KR outfit.
The Robins wasted no time in stamping their authority on the game, with Jesse Sue and Oliver Gildart scoring early tries to put them 12-0 up. Mikey Lewis and Peta Hiku extended the lead before the break, leaving Wigan with a mountain to climb.
Bevan French gave the Warriors some hope with a try, but Super League veteran Ryan Hall and Kelepi Tanginoa put the game beyond doubt for Hull KR. A late score from Liam Farrell was little more than a consolation for the visitors.
Wigan head coach Matt Peet was brutally honest in his assessment, admitting his side were “beaten in all aspects” and acknowledging that their defense was “pretty poor” in the first half. The loss will be a concerning one for Peet, as his team were close to full strength, barring long-term absentee Willie Isa.
The Warriors will have little time to dwell on the defeat, as they face another stern test next week against the in-form Catalans Dragons. Peet is hopeful his side can respond, but knows that inconsistency throughout the season is “not really good enough.”
