Wigan Warriors Undecided on Challenge Cup Final Suspensions
Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet has revealed the club is yet to decide whether to appeal the bans handed down to Adam Keighran and Tyler Dupree, which will rule them out of Saturday’s Challenge Cup final against Warrington.
Peet told Love Rugby League that his main focus is ensuring the suspensions do not distract the Warriors squad as they prepare for the showpiece event at Wembley. However, he stopped short of confirming if Wigan will attempt to overturn the three-match bans imposed on Keighran and Dupree.
“I’m not exactly sure yet. I’m not sure, I’m going to get asked that a lot but I’ll hold stock on that and speak to a few people. We’ve got until tomorrow morning,” Peet said.
The Wigan coach acknowledged the challenges posed by the disciplinary issues, but emphasized the importance of not letting them take up too much of the team’s energy leading into the final.
“I wouldn’t say we expected it but I was aware of the risks in picking the team we did. It’s a week to week thing, you still know it could happen just because it’s the Challenge Cup final,” Peet explained. “We’re in decent shape and there’s going to be a bit to contend with this week but it’s the story of the game. There’s always been things going on in the background and it’s important it doesn’t take up too much of our energy.”
Keighran was shown a red card for a challenge on Arron Lindop, while Dupree was banned for head-butting Warrington hooker Sam Powell during Wigan’s victory over the Wolves last weekend. The Warriors have until 12 pm on Tuesday to decide whether to appeal the suspensions, but the prospects of the players being available for the final appear slim.
