Warrington Wolves Reclaim Top-Two Spot with Hard-Fought Victory over Castleford Tigers
On Friday night, Warrington Wolves secured a 28-6 win over Castleford Tigers in a gritty Super League clash at The Jungle. The victory sees Warrington move back into the league’s top two, at least temporarily.
Cai Taylor-Wray, the 18-year-old full-back, was the standout performer for the Wolves, earning the Sky Sports’ man of the match award. The young talent made a crucial try-saving tackle in the first half and later scored a try of his own, marking a memorable outing.
Warrington head coach Sam Burgess endured a whirlwind few days, being inducted into the NRL Hall of Fame in Sydney on Wednesday before returning to the UK on Friday to oversee his side’s triumph. The Wolves faithful showed their appreciation for Burgess’ efforts during his post-match interview.
Other try-scorers for the visitors included John Bateman, Matty Nicholson, Josh Thewlis and Matty Ashton, who continued his impressive try-scoring streak against Castleford. Ashton has now scored in four consecutive games against the Tigers, notching six tries in total.
The match featured a moment of magic from Warrington captain George Williams, who produced a superb offload between his own legs to set up Ashton’s late try, capping off a dominant performance from the Wolves.
Castleford’s defensive woes were evident, with the Tigers missing 42 tackles compared to just 8 for Warrington, a statistic that will concern head coach Craig Lingard. However, the Fords continue to demonstrate their trust in youth, handing a debut to teenager Jenson Windley, the 10th academy product to feature for the club in Super League this season.
“The victory sees Warrington move back into the league’s top two, at least temporarily.”
