Warrington Wolves’ Coach Burgess on George Williams Absence in London Broncos Win

Warrington Wolves’ Head Coach Sam Burgess Provides Update on George Williams’ Absence in London Broncos Victory

In their recent Super League clash against the London Broncos, Warrington Wolves emerged victorious with a 36-22 scoreline. However, the absence of half-back George Williams from the Wolves’ lineup raised some eyebrows among rugby league enthusiasts.

Burgess, the Warrington head coach, has now provided clarity on Williams’ non-appearance in the match. The experienced tactician confirmed that the decision to rest the playmaker was a precautionary measure, as Williams has been carrying a slight niggle.

“He’s played a lot and he plays pretty tough,” Burgess explained to The Warrington Guardian’s Matt Turner. “We decided late on to give him a rest. He had a slight niggle, so we decided not to risk it. It was a last-minute call, really.”

Williams has been a key figure for the Wolves this season, featuring 15 times in Super League and contributing 15 try involvements, including six tries and nine assists. His absence, though, did not hinder Warrington’s performance, as they secured a comfortable victory over the league’s bottom club.

The win saw the third-placed Wolves move within two competition points of second-placed Wigan Warriors and Super League leaders Hull KR. Burgess’ side will now turn their attention to their next challenge, a clash against the Leeds Rhinos at Elland Road as part of the upcoming Magic Weekend.
