Veteran NRL Forward Jack de Belin Eyeing Super League Move
Veteran NRL forward Jack de Belin has hinted at a potential move to the Super League, as his time with the St George Illawarra Dragons appears to be drawing to a close. The 33-year-old, who has spent his entire 14-year career with the Dragons, has been offered to Super League clubs, and the move now seems increasingly likely after his recent comments.
de Belin, who has played both loose forward and prop throughout his impressive career, has racked up an impressive 215 appearances for the Dragons. He has also represented New South Wales in State of Origin, featuring in all three games as the Blues secured their first win since 2014. Additionally, the veteran forward made his debut for Papua New Guinea in 2023 at the age of 32.
“Footy careers are a short thing, and you’ve got to cash in and make the most of it while you can. It is a lot, it’s a massive move.”
Speaking about his potential move, de Belin acknowledged the significance of the decision, stating, “I’ve got to weigh it up.” He further elaborated, “Footy careers are a short thing, and you’ve got to cash in and make the most of it while you can. It is a lot, it’s a massive move.”
While de Belin expressed his reluctance to leave the Dragons, for whom he has played his entire career, he recognized the business aspect of the sport. “If the club wants you, they’ll do what they can to keep you. At the end of the day, it is a business. I’ve seen some of my best mates come and go. It is heartbreaking at the time, but it’s a business.”
Potential destinations for the veteran forward include the Leeds Rhinos, who are seeking to bolster their pack, and the Warrington Wolves, who have been linked with a move for Huddersfield Giants captain Luke Yates. If the Warrington move for Yates does not materialize, they could consider acquiring de Belin, a former teammate of enforcing prop Paul Vaughan.
Regardless of his eventual destination, the departure of de Belin from the Dragons will undoubtedly be a significant loss for the club, as they bid farewell to a beloved and long-serving player.
