Heartfelt Tributes Flood in for Rugby League Legend Rob Burrow
The tragic passing of iconic Rugby League figure Rob Burrow has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans, peers, and legends of the sport worldwide. Headingley Stadium, the site of many of Burrow’s triumphs, has been inundated with visitors seeking to reflect on his remarkable legacy.
In a special episode of Sky Sports’ The Verdict, hosted live from Headingley, pundits Jenna Brooks, Jon Wilkin, and Danny McGuire shared their personal memories and tributes to the Leeds Rhinos great. Both Wilkin and McGuire, who played alongside and against Burrow from a young age, offered profound insights into the diminutive player’s immense impact on the sport.
“There was nothing more terrifying on a rugby field than being tired and Rob Burrow running at you,” Wilkin said. “His speed was electric, and he used his small stature to his advantage, not a weakness.”
McGuire, Burrow’s long-time teammate, echoed Wilkin’s sentiments, recalling the special bond they shared from their days in the Yorkshire academy. “He was one of my greatest foes…but somebody who I respected a great deal on my journey,” McGuire reflected.

In a fitting tribute, the Rugby Football League (RFL) announced that the Challenge Cup final kick-off time would be shifted to 3:07 PM, a nod to Burrow’s iconic jersey number, as part of a series of commemorations honoring the beloved Rugby League icon.
