Tributes Pour in for Rugby League Legend Rob Burrow After Tragic Passing
The rugby league community and beyond are mourning the loss of an inspirational figure, Rob Burrow, who passed away yesterday at the age of 41. Burrow, a former Leeds Rhinos player, had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) in 2019 and used his platform to raise vital awareness and funds for numerous charities, touching the lives of thousands.
Alongside his former Leeds Rhinos teammate Kevin Sinfield, Burrow spearheaded a fundraising campaign that has amassed over £20 million, £6 million of which went towards kickstarting the construction of the Rob Burrow Centre for MND in Leeds, which began on Monday.
Burrow’s brave fight against the debilitating disease transcended the world of rugby league. He was awarded an MBE in 2021 and a CBE earlier this year, collecting the latter at Windsor Castle alongside his wife, Lindsey.
