The Super League Transfer Market Remains Abuzz Despite International Break
The Super League transfer market has shown no signs of slowing down this week, even with the current international break pausing on-field competition. Clubs have seized this opportunity to focus their attention on off-the-field matters, putting into place their plans for the 2025 season. A number of Super League teams are actively scouring the NRL for star overseas signings, and this week the Leigh Leopards and Catalans Dragons have both moved to bring in big NRL names, signing David Armstrong and Nick Cotric respectively.
Another high-profile player frequently linked with a potential Super League move for 2025 is St George Illawarra’s Jack de Belin. De Belin has spent his entire career with the Dragons, representing New South Wales in State of Origin and playing internationally for Papua New Guinea. In a recent interview with the West Australian, de Belin has now opened up about his future options and the likelihood of a Super League switch.
“It’s nice to know there are options over there (in England),” de Belin stated. “Maybe if I didn’t think I was up to the speed of the NRL any more, or if I didn’t have it in me I could definitely go over there. But while I’m still playing at a higher level, a big part of me wants to stay here in the NRL.”
The contract negotiations between de Belin and the Dragons appear to have reached an impasse, with the player keen to secure a two-year deal for valuable security as he approaches the end of his career. However, the club appears reluctant to agree to this length of contract.
“That’s kind of what the stand-off (with the Dragons) has been,” de Belin explained. “I would prefer to get the two years so I don’t have to go through this whole process again next year. I was hoping to get that, but at the same time it is a business and they have to do what they have to do as well.”
Despite the ongoing negotiations, de Belin confirmed that he has already received multiple offers from Super League clubs for the 2025 season, indicating the growing interest in his services among the UK-based teams.
