Rugby League Scores and Results: A Recap of Super League Round Eleven
As the summer weather graced the fields of England and France, Round Eleven of the Super League saw a host of one-sided affairs. While the conditions were near-perfect for rugby league viewing, the attendance figures failed to reflect the excitement on the pitch, with none of the six games drawing a crowd of 10,000 or more.
The round kicked off with a top-of-the-table clash between Warrington Wolves and Hull KR. Warrington proved too strong for their visitors, racing into an 18-0 lead before a moment of magic from Mikey Lewis helped Hull KR claw the score back to 18-8. Ultimately, Warrington held on to secure a 20-8 victory.
The remaining Friday fixtures were even more one-sided, with Leigh comfortably defeating Salford 40-12 and St Helens thrashing Castleford 60-4 in a stunning second-half display. Wigan Warriors also put on an impressive show, defeating Huddersfield Giants 48-6, thanks in part to a standout performance from Bevan French.
The only close encounter of the round came in the south of France, where Catalans Dragons secured a 26-0 win over Leeds Rhinos. This game, however, was marred by a report from referee Chris Kendall regarding “inappropriate comments” from the players.
The round’s biggest highlight was undoubtedly London Broncos’ first win of the season, as they came from behind to defeat Hull FC 34-18. This victory was hard-earned, with the Broncos scoring three tries in the final half-hour to secure the much-needed points.
Despite the exciting action on the field, the Super League attendance figures for Round Eleven hit a season low, with no game surpassing the 10,000 mark. The highest attendance was the Catalans-Leeds clash, which drew 9,546 fans, while the London-Hull game had the lowest turnout at just 3,225.
