No Suspensions Handed Out After Super League Round 9
In a surprising turn of events, the Match Review Panel has not issued any charges or suspensions to Super League players following the completion of Round 9. This marks the first time this season that no bans have been handed down in the aftermath of a weekend of league action.
Throughout the initial eight rounds and the two Challenge Cup rounds involving Super League teams, at least one card had been shown and one ban had been dealt in the aftermath of each round. Round 5 previously held the record low for suspensions in the current campaign, with just Hull FC’s Franklin Pele facing punishment.
However, the latest round of fixtures saw a clean slate, as the Match Review Panel opted not to take any disciplinary action against any players. As a result, there will be no need for any tribunals on Tuesday, and no one will be suspended for the upcoming Round 10 matches.
The lack of suspensions is a stark contrast to the previous week, when Catalans Dragons saw two players – Mike McMeeken and Micky McIlorum – handed bans following their victory over Hull KR. While McMeeken has now served his one-game suspension, McIlorum still has one match remaining on his punishment.
Currently, Micky McIlorum (Catalans Dragons) and Sylvester Namo (Castleford Tigers) are the only two Super League players serving suspensions. McIlorum received a two-match ban, while Namo was handed a five-match suspension following the Challenge Cup quarter-final against Wigan Warriors.
