Super League Origin Heroes: Queensland and NSW Stars Shine

Rugby League’s Finest in Super League: Celebrating the Origin Heroes

As the eagerly anticipated 2024 State of Origin series approaches, Super League is home to a host of players and coaches who have etched their names into the history books of this iconic rugby league rivalry.

Leigh Leopards’ head coach Adrian Lam is one such figure, having represented Queensland with distinction on 14 occasions between 1994 and 2000, winning two Origin series in the process. Lam’s extensive experience, including captaining both Queensland and Papua New Guinea, makes him a unique voice in the Super League landscape.

Joining Lam in the Super League ranks is Warrington Wolves’ Paul Vaughan, who has donned the blue jersey of New South Wales on six occasions, featuring in the 2018 and 2019 Origin campaigns. Vaughan’s impressive NRL pedigree and international experience with Italy and Australia further bolster his credentials.

Another Queensland representative gracing the Super League stage is St Helens’ Moses Mbye, who earned selection for the Maroons in 2019 while playing for the Wests Tigers. Mbye’s Origin involvement was not without drama, as he reportedly suffered an anaphylactic shock prior to Game 2, but he was able to recover and play a role in the entire series.

Tariq Sims, the imposing forward for Catalans Dragons, has also left his mark on the Origin arena, earning call-ups to the New South Wales squad in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022, despite previously representing Fiji at the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

Rounding out the Super League contingent with Origin experience is Leigh Leopards’ Matt Moylan, who made his debut for the New South Wales Blues in the opening game of the 2016 series, going on to feature at both fullback and in the halves.

As the 2024 State of Origin series approaches, the presence of these seasoned veterans in Super League serves as a testament to the league’s enduring appeal and the global reach of rugby league’s most prestigious individual competition.
