No Super League Suspensions for Second Straight Week Despite Five Charges
In a surprising turn of events, the Super League disciplinary scene has remained relatively calm, with no players suspended for the second consecutive week. This comes despite five players being charged by the Match Review Panel.
Among those charged were Hull FC half-back Jake Trueman and Hull KR centre Peta Hiku. However, similar to the previous week, no suspensions were handed out, indicating that the disciplinary turbulence experienced earlier in the season may be starting to subside.
Trueman was charged with a Grade B Dangerous Contact following his return game for Hull against Warrington Wolves on Friday night, but he received a relatively minor punishment of a £250 fine. Hiku faced a Grade A Dangerous Contact charge and was also fined £250, which is at the higher end of the sanction for that particular charge grade.
Leeds Rhinos hooker Andy Ackers was charged with Grade A Other Contrary Behaviour after the Rhinos’ victory over London Broncos, but no further action was taken against him.
The two remaining players charged were from the Catalans Dragons during their defeat to Wigan Warriors. Dragons captain Ben Garcia was fined £250 for a Grade B Head Contact incident, while teammate Bousquet received the same punishment for a Grade B trip incident.
This two-week stretch without any Super League suspensions suggests that the disciplinary issues that plagued the early part of the season may be starting to settle down. It remains to be seen if this trend will continue in the coming weeks as the league races towards the business end of the campaign.
