Super League Clubs Brace for RFL Match Review Panel’s Disciplinary Verdicts
As the latest round of Super League fixtures concludes, all eyes turn to the RFL Match Review Panel’s disciplinary rulings. Last week saw just three charges, with Wigan Warriors players Kaide Ellis, Sam Walters, and Luke Thompson facing sanctions. This week, the focus shifts to a more substantial set of charges, headlined by a potential lengthy ban for Hull FC’s Herman Ese-ese.
Ese-ese has been hit with a Grade F charge for ‘verbal abuse’, following an incident in his side’s loss to London Broncos earlier this month. If found guilty at the upcoming independent tribunal, the prop faces a minimum six-game suspension. This serves as a stark reminder of the RFL’s continued crackdown on such conduct.
Elsewhere, the weekend’s action saw six sin-bins across the six fixtures. Warrington Wolves’ Lachlan Fitzgibbon was shown a yellow card for “forceful and dangerous” contact, while Huddersfield Giants’ Oliver Russell and Leigh Leopards’ Frankie Halton were also sent to the bin for offenses in their respective matches.
The disciplinary fallout has continued into the new week, with Warrington Wolves suffering a significant blow. George Williams has been handed a one-match ban for a Grade B Dangerous Contact charge, with five other players receiving £250 fines for similar offenses.
“As the rugby league community awaits the full outcome of the RFL Match Review Panel’s deliberations, the focus remains on maintaining high standards of on-field conduct and player safety. The coming weeks are likely to see further scrutiny and sanctions as the Super League season progresses.”
