Catalans Dragons’ Bayley Sironen Cleared of Wrongdoing in Disciplinary Case
The Super League Disciplinary Committee has reached a verdict on the case involving Catalans Dragons’ forward Bayley Sironen. After a Grade E Head Contact charge was initially handed down by the Match Review Panel, the matter was referred to the Operational Rules Tribunal for further deliberation.
Sironen, who joined the Dragons this season after making the move from NRL side New Zealand Warriors, found himself in hot water following an incident during his team’s Challenge Cup quarter-final defeat to Huddersfield Giants. While teammate Arthur Romano was sin-binned, Sironen was the sole player from Els Dracs to be charged from the weekend’s action.
However, the Operational Rules Tribunal has now ruled in Sironen’s favor, clearing him of any wrongdoing.
In a statement, the Rugby Football League confirmed that the tribunal’s decision to drop the Grade E charge was made after the Dragons submitted additional footage to the Match Review Panel, providing further context to the incident.
This development comes as Castleford Tigers’ Sylvester Namo and Hull KR’s Jesse Sue also faced disciplinary proceedings. Namo was given a Grade F Dangerous Contact charge for a tackle that led to an injury to Wigan Warriors’ Willie Isa, while Hull KR appealed the decision to issue Sue with a Grade B Dangerous Contact charge and a one-match Penalty Notice.
As the rugby league season reaches a crucial juncture, these disciplinary rulings will undoubtedly have an impact on the teams and players involved, both on and off the field. Fans and pundits alike will be keeping a close eye on how the outcomes of these cases shape the ongoing Super League and Challenge Cup campaigns.
