St Helens Respond to Crowd Trouble Following Hull KR Defeat
St Helens have released a strong statement addressing the unacceptable behavior of a small group of their supporters following the team’s heavy defeat to Hull KR last weekend. The Super League champions suffered a 40-20 loss at Craven Park, which saw the hosts cement their status as genuine title contenders this season.
Unfortunately, the match was marred by ugly scenes, with footage emerging online depicting clashes between St Helens and Hull KR fans. The incidents involved a small number of supporters from both sides, who had to be separated by stewards as objects were thrown between the two groups. Despite the game being a complete sell-out with a vibrant atmosphere, this anti-social behavior overshadowed what should have been an enthralling encounter.
In response, St Helens have reiterated their “zero-tolerance approach to any anti-social behavior.” The club statement emphasized their desire for all supporters to enjoy matches in a “safe and friendly environment,” whether at their home ground or away venues. Specifically addressing the recent incident, the statement condemned the actions of the “very small minority” whose behavior has “let the Club and our fans down.”
As a result, the club has issued banning orders to those individuals involved, stressing that misdemeanors such as “physical or verbal abuse, violent conduct, missile throwing, excessive alcohol misuse, and any drug misuse” will not be tolerated. The use of pyrotechnics was also highlighted as a serious offense that can lead to substantial costs and safety concerns for the club.
Despite this disappointing incident, St Helens were quick to recognize the “large majority of our fanbase” who continue to be “excellent supporters.” The club expressed their appreciation for the “fantastic backing of the team” demonstrated by the 1,200 traveling fans at the Hull KR match and other away fixtures.
As St Helens prepare to face Castleford Tigers tonight, the club’s swift action and firm stance against anti-social behavior sends a clear message that such incidents will not be accepted, and the matchday experience for all supporters remains the top priority.
