St Helens Face Mixed Injury News Ahead of Hull FC Clash
As St Helens prepare to face Hull FC in their upcoming Super League clash, the club has received both positive and concerning injury updates regarding their key players.
The headline news is that prop Alex Walmsley will undergo further checks on his knee, in addition to the hamstring strain he suffered during their Challenge Cup exit against Warrington Wolves last weekend. Head coach Paul Wellens confirmed that while the hamstring issue is expected to keep Walmsley sidelined for a couple of weeks, the club is waiting on the results of the additional knee assessment to determine the full extent of the injury.
However, there was more encouraging news on the injury front for the reigning Super League champions. Young forward Jake Wingfield, who missed the Warrington game due to a shoulder problem, has been given the all-clear after seeing a specialist, with Wellens stating that the injury is non-surgical, and Wingfield is expected to return to action in the next couple of weeks.
Wellens also provided a positive update on the availability of experienced duo Mark Percival and Matty Lees, both of whom have been absent since the Good Friday victory over Wigan Warriors. Percival has been cleared to play after passing the necessary concussion protocols, while Lees is set to make his return from a two-game suspension.
“The return of Percival and Lees will undoubtedly boost St Helens’ squad depth as they look to bounce back from their recent defeats against Catalans Dragons and Warrington Wolves.”
Wellens expressed his enthusiasm about the duo’s impending return, stating that they will “freshen things up” for the team.
Despite the concern surrounding Walmsley’s fitness, the overall injury news presents a mixed but largely positive picture for St Helens as they gear up for their crucial Super League clash with Hull FC on Friday night.
