St Helens Bolster Roster Ahead of 2025 with Cowboys Star Feldt
As St Helens look to bounce back from a disappointing 2024 season in Super League, the club has taken a significant step in their recruitment plans by securing the services of North Queensland Cowboys icon Kyle Feldt on a two-year deal. However, there is still plenty of work to be done as the Saints aim to rebuild and challenge for top honors once again.
The departure of long-serving stars like Tommy Makinson and Lewis Dodd signals the end of an era at the Totally Wicked Stadium. With more high-profile exits potentially on the horizon, the Saints’ recruitment team faces some burning questions as they seek to assemble a squad capable of competing at the highest level in 2025.
One key decision will be the fate of quota players Konrad Hurrell and Waqa Blake, with at least one of the pair expected to depart to accommodate Feldt and fellow new signing Tristan Sailor. The possible exit of Sione Mata’utia further complicates matters, as the Saints look to find the right balance in their backline.
In the pack, Paul Wellens must determine whether to trust the club’s promising youngsters, such as Noah Stephens, Jonny Vaughan, and George Delaney, who have already made an impression this season, or invest in more experienced forwards to bolster the team’s seniority.
With Makinson’s move to Catalans, the Saints also need to address the opposite wing, with Tee Ritson’s future uncertain and Jon Bennison seemingly on his way out. The club may turn to the market or look to their academy to find the right fit to partner Feldt in the 2025 campaign.
“As St Helens navigate these key recruitment decisions, the club’s supporters will be eager to see a squad capable of reclaiming the Super League crown and challenging for more silverware in the years to come.”
