South Sydney Rabbitohs NRL Revival: Ex-Leeds Rhinos Coach Hired

South Sydney Rabbitohs Reportedly Bring In Ex-Leeds Rhinos Coach to Revive Fortunes

In a bid to turn around their dismal start to the 2024 NRL season, the South Sydney Rabbitohs are reportedly set to draft in former Leeds Rhinos coach David Furner. The Rabbitohs currently sit at the bottom of the league table, and have been chronically underperforming so far this year.

While reports emerged last week that head coach Jason Demetriou would be sacked regardless of the outcome against the Cronulla Sharks, it now appears that Demetriou will remain in his post for the coming weeks. However, he is set to receive some much-needed assistance in the form of Furner, who was most recently working as an assistant coach for the Wests Tigers.

Furner will reportedly be tasked with reviving the Rabbitohs’ leaky defense, which has been conceding over 30 points per game. The former Leeds coach has held several assistant coaching roles in the NRL over the course of his career, including a stint at South Sydney in recent years. He also had a brief spell as the head coach of the Rhinos in 2018, but was sacked just nine months into a three-year deal.

“The Rabbitohs will be hoping that Furner’s expertise and experience can help them turn their season around and mount a challenge for the playoffs in 2024.”
