Sky Sports Rugby League Pundits Suggest Four Potential Coaches for Vacant Leeds Rhinos Role
With the Leeds Rhinos head coach position currently vacant after Rohan Smith’s departure last month, Sky Sports pundit Jon Wilkin has identified four potential candidates who could fill the role. According to the Rhinos’ sporting director Ian Blease, the club has spoken to “high-calibre candidates” both in the UK and Australia, and they will enter the next stage of their search this week.
Wilkin, discussing the matter on Sky Sports’ The Verdict, offered up several intriguing options. First, he suggested Justin Holbrook, the current Kangaroos assistant coach who previously enjoyed a successful spell with St Helens, winning the Challenge Cup, League Leaders’ Shield, and Super League Grand Final. Wilkin described Holbrook as “one of the best” coaches and believes he would be an “amazing appointment” for the Rhinos.
Continuing his list of potential candidates, Wilkin also mentioned Dean Young, the NRL assistant coach currently with the St. George Illawarra Dragons, as well as Chad Randall, the Manly Sea Eagles assistant who has significant Super League experience from his playing days with the London Broncos. Finally, Wilkin floated the idea of bringing in club legend Danny McGuire, who is currently an assistant coach at Castleford Tigers.
“The Leeds Rhinos are certainly spoiled for choice as they seek to find the right individual to lead the team and guide them back to success. With a pool of experienced and highly-regarded coaches to consider, the Rhinos’ search for Rohan Smith’s successor promises to be an intriguing development in the rugby league landscape.”
