Peach’s Crowning Achievement

Sinead Peach, the York Valkyrie captain, was crowned the 2023 Woman of Steel in a glittering awards ceremony at Lancashire County Cricket Club last October. The talented hooker from Hunslet in South Leeds filled an entire table with her friends and family, highlighting the tight-knit support she has enjoyed during her rugby league career.

“I thought to myself before the awards evening ‘if I am the Woman of Steel, then I want everyone to be there’, so they all came,” Peach told Love Rugby League.

Recognizing Peach’s Talent

The 25-year-old is entering her prime years and has become an increasingly recognizable face of the women’s rugby league game. Her success in 2023 has not gone unnoticed, with several of her English contemporaries, such as Georgia Roche, Francesca Goldthorp and Hollie-Mae Dodd, heading to the NRLW in recent years.

While Peach hasn’t received any offers from NRLW clubs yet, she hasn’t ruled out the prospect of playing in Australia in the future. “If I got approached then obviously I would have that conversation,” she said.

Defending the Title

Peach’s focus, however, remains on helping York Valkyrie defend their Women’s Super League title in the upcoming season. The club has made significant progress, with 20 Valkyrie players now on two-year professional deals, a testament to the growth of the women’s game.

As the reigning Woman of Steel, Peach is hungry for more success and is expecting strong competition from the likes of Leeds Rhinos, St Helens, and Wigan Warriors. “When you speak to all the girls and coaching staff, you set out to win more trophies but it’s a long old season,” she said.

With her tight-knit support system and the backing of her club, Sinead Peach is poised to continue her dominant performances in the 2023 Women’s Super League season, as she aims to solidify her status as one of the premier rugby league players in the country.
