Salford Red Devils Bolster Pack with Australian Forward Loghan Lewis
In a move that is expected to strengthen their squad ahead of the crucial Super League clash with Wigan Warriors, the Salford Red Devils are reportedly set to sign Australian forward Loghan Lewis, according to reports that emerged on Sunday.
The 21-year-old, who is yet to make his debut in the NRL for the Canberra Raiders, has been a regular in the New South Wales Cup over the past two years, making over 20 appearances, including nine this season. However, he is now poised to continue his career in the Super League by joining Paul Rowley’s side.
“The recent loosening of quota restrictions, which allow players under the age of 25 to join the Super League without having to meet a set number of NRL appearances, has paved the way for Lewis’ potential move to England. This change in regulations has made it easier for the Red Devils to secure a working visa for the young forward.”
The addition of Lewis would provide a much-needed boost to Salford’s pack as they look to secure a spot in this year’s play-offs. The deal is believed to be for next season, as well as the current campaign, giving the Red Devils some valuable mid-season reinforcement.
However, the signing of Lewis would mean that Salford would have to release one of their existing quota players, with winger David Nofoaluma heavily rumored to be the one on his way out, despite having only joined the club a few months ago.
With the Super League season reaching a crucial stage, the acquisition of Loghan Lewis could prove to be a valuable asset for the Salford Red Devils as they aim to secure a place in the end-of-season playoffs.
