Salford Red Devils Receive Timely Boost with Ormondroyd’s Return Ahead of Clash with League Leaders Hull KR
Salford Red Devils are poised to welcome back key prop Jack Ormondroyd for their crucial away fixture against Super League table-toppers Hull KR on Friday night.
The 32-year-old was in impressive form earlier in the campaign, but a rib injury had sidelined him since May 10. Speaking in June, Salford coach Paul Rowley had suggested that Ormondroyd was likely to miss the remainder of the season. However, the Birmingham-born forward has made a quicker-than-expected recovery, earning a place in Rowley’s 21-man squad for the trip to Sewell Group Craven Park.
Salford assistant Krisnan Inu acknowledged Ormondroyd’s importance, stating, “> The player that he was before injury, he was in great form, and it’s about finding that form again now, especially now at the right time of the season when we need those players and big bodies leading into potential finals.”
With several players returning from injury, Inu highlighted the depth at Rowley’s disposal, noting, “> We’ve got some boys that have been out for a few weeks now, and from looking at the squad at the start of the season to looking at it now, and having those boys back, we’ve nearly full strength at the back end which is good for us and a good headache for us coaches to have for the games to come.”
Salford sit fourth in the Super League table and are in contention for a play-off spot. They face a stern test against the league-leading Hull KR, who have won 10 of their last 11 matches. Inu emphasized the challenge ahead, praising Hull KR’s “electric” and “good offloading type of team” that requires solid defensive discipline from the Red Devils.
Salford’s remaining four fixtures include crunch matches against fellow top-six aspirants Catalans Dragons, Hull FC, and Wigan Warriors, making Ormondroyd’s return a timely boost as they look to secure a spot in the end-of-season play-offs.
