Rugby League Roundup: Controversial Calls and Disciplinary Decisions Dominate the Weekend
As the Super League season rolls on, the latest round of matches saw a flurry of disciplinary actions and contentious calls from the RFL Match Review Panel. While the Challenge Cup final last week escaped without any suspensions, this week’s slate of games was not as fortunate.
On Friday, Wigan Warriors squeezed past Castleford Tigers 10-8, with a controversial sin-binning of Cain Robb proving to be a pivotal moment. Elsewhere, Hull KR cruised to a 32-6 victory over Huddersfield Giants, who had both Andre Savelio and Adam Milner sanctioned. Salford Red Devils also pulled off a surprise 25-14 win over Warrington Wolves.
Saturday’s action saw Leeds Rhinos slump to defeat against Hull FC, while Catalans Dragons were upset 10-2 by a determined Leigh Leopards side. Then, on Sunday, St Helens thrashed London Broncos 52-6 at the Twickenham Stoop.
The RFL has now released its latest disciplinary findings, with four players in total facing charges. London Broncos duo Ethan Natoli and Rhys Kennedy both received one-match bans, while Castleford’s Cain Robb and Jacob Miller were handed £250 fines for head contact offenses. Notably, Huddersfield’s Savelio and Mikey Lewis avoided suspensions despite their involvement in the heated clash with Hull KR.
“As the Super League season intensifies, rugby league enthusiasts can expect more thrilling action and scrutiny from the disciplinary panel in the weeks to come.”
