Rugby League Transfer News: Super League Clubs Active in Building 2025 Rosters

Transfer Activity Heats Up in Super League

As the current Super League campaign approaches the midway point, transfer activity is heating up, with several clubs making moves to bolster their rosters for the 2025 season. With limited quota spots for overseas players, clubs must be strategic in their international signings.

Hull FC Bolster Roster

Hull FC have filled the vacancies left by Nu Brown and Tex Hoy by acquiring overseas duo Jed Cartwright and Treigh Stewart.

Salford Secure Aaron Pene

Salford, meanwhile, are set to strengthen their squad by securing the services of Aaron Pene for the rest of the 2024 season.

Wests Tigers and Brisbane Broncos Players Available

Wests Tigers have reportedly been offering some of their top talents to Super League clubs, and it now appears that several Brisbane Broncos players could also be available for transfer, as the NRL side looks to retain their star fullback, Reece Walsh, who is expected to command a substantial salary.

“Veteran forward Martin Taupau is set to be released by the Broncos at the end of his current deal. Joining him in departing the club are four of his teammates – Xavier Willison, Kotoni Staggs, Corey Jensen, and Kobe Hetherington – whose contracts with the Broncos will expire at the end of the season.”

Willison, a 21-year-old powerful prop, has been a regular in the Broncos’ lineup this year, making nine appearances and scoring one try. Centre Staggs, whose stellar performances in 2023 earned him a call-up to the Australian national team, has scored twice in his 11 outings for the club. The 30-year-old Jensen is a consistent and hardworking prop who has made 12 appearances, with an impressive tackle success rate of 97%. Hetherington, the Broncos’ 2021 Rookie of the Year, is a dynamic loose forward known for his ball-carrying prowess, having made 22 tackle breaks and 480 post-contact metres this season.

Super League clubs are likely to face stiff competition from their NRL counterparts in their pursuit of these Broncos regulars.
