Rugby League Transfer Market Heats Up: Maumalo, Sivo, and Aitken Linked to New Moves
The Super League transfer market is currently in full swing, as clubs finalize their plans for the 2025 season. One area of particular interest is the outside back position, with several high-profile players reportedly available for transfer.
In recent weeks, a number of big names from the NRL have hit the open market. Ken Maumalo and experienced winger Maika Sivo are both reportedly available for transfer. Meanwhile, the Wests Tigers are set to release utility back Brent Naden in an effort to reduce their salary cap, with Naden being offered to Super League clubs.
Another player generating significant interest is Euan Aitken, who currently plays for the Dolphins in the NRL. Aitken’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current season, and he was previously linked with a move to the Catalans Dragons in 2023. Now, reports suggest that Aitken is unlikely to join a Super League club and is instead set to link up with former England head coach Wayne Bennett at the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2025.
“The move to the Rabbitohs would see Aitken reunited with Lewis Dodd, and it comes after Bennett confirmed he will be joining the embattled South Sydney club from the start of 2025.”
Kristian Woolf is set to replace Bennett as the Dolphins’ head coach from the start of next season, but the club reportedly could only offer Aitken a one-year extension, which he deemed insufficient.
While the news will disappoint a number of Super League clubs who were interested in acquiring Aitken’s services, the transfer market continues to be a source of excitement and speculation for rugby league enthusiasts.
