Rugby League Transfer Buzz: Cook Linked with Super League Switch
As the Super League season reaches its midpoint, clubs are closely evaluating their rosters and identifying areas for improvement ahead of the 2025 campaign. The transfer window has been open for six weeks, and several teams have already turned to the NRL to bolster their squads for next season. Prominent names like Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Tom Burgess are set to make the switch to the UK, while Jayden Sullivan, Brent Naden, and Daniel Tupou have also been linked with Super League moves.
Damien Cook Attracting Interest from Super League Clubs
The latest player to catch the attention of Super League clubs is South Sydney Rabbitohs hooker Damien Cook. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the Huddersfield Giants are keen on securing Cook’s services, facing competition from St George Illawarra Dragons. Cook, who is under contract with the Rabbitohs until 2025, could command a salary of around £330,000 per season, a figure that is not expected to deter the interested parties.
“Cook is contracted at the Rabbitohs until the end of 2025 on a deal worth about $650,000. The Dragons are willing to offer him a contract but would require South Sydney to contribute part of his salary in 2025,” the report states. “The opportunity for Cook to move on presented itself a few weeks ago when Super League club Huddersfield made direct inquiries with South Sydney officials in the hope they could lure the hooker to England on a two-year deal.”
The Rabbitohs have indicated that they are unlikely to offer Cook an extension beyond 2025 and would not stand in his way if he secures a longer-term deal elsewhere, either in the Super League or the NRL.
Damien Cook’s Impressive NRL Career
With 204 NRL appearances and 33 tries to his name, Damien Cook has established himself as a reliable and influential hooker. His potential move to the UK would be a significant boost for whichever Super League club manages to secure his services.
