Rugby League Icon Ryan Hall Retirement Plan and Record Chase

Rugby League Icon Ryan Hall Announces Retirement Plan, Set to Break Super League Try Record

Rugby league fans are abuzz with the news that the legendary Ryan Hall will be returning to his hometown club, Leeds Rhinos, next season, six years after departing the club as one of its all-time top try-scorers. The England winger has now revealed that the 2025 season will mark his official retirement from the sport, capping off an illustrious career.

Part of the reason for Hall’s homecoming is a guaranteed role in the Rhinos’ commercial department, an opportunity he simply couldn’t pass up as he prepares for life after playing.

“As players, we are often told of the importance of planning for life after playing, and the opportunity for me to start that next stage of my life at the Rhinos from 2026 onwards is wonderful,” said the veteran winger.

Fans will be eager to see Hall don the Rhinos jersey once again, as he closes in on Danny McGuire’s all-time Super League try-scoring record of 247. Currently sitting at 244 tries, the Oulton Raiders junior is expected to surpass the milestone this season, though it’s likely he’ll achieve the feat while playing for his current club, Hull KR.

Regardless of where he breaks the record, it’s another remarkable accomplishment for Hall, who is already England’s all-time top try-scorer with 39 touchdowns in 40 international appearances. As the 37-year-old winger turns another year older, the risk of injury increases, but the confirmation of his retirement plan in 2025 provides a clear path for him to leave the game on his own terms.

When Hall does finally hang up his boots, it’s sure to be an emotional farewell at Headingley, the ground he has graced with his prolific try-scoring abilities for so many years. Rugby league fans across the country will be eagerly anticipating the final chapter of this iconic player’s career.
