Challenge Cup Finals Day Officiating Teams Announced
On Saturday, Wembley Stadium will host the highly anticipated RFL Challenge Cup finals day, and the officiating teams have been announced. Traditionally, the matches have been overseen by officials from the RFL’s Men’s Super League, even when the participating teams are not from the top tier.
Chris Kendall, who refereed the 2022 Men’s Challenge Cup final between Hull KR and Leigh Leopards, as well as the 2019 and 2020 editions, will once again take charge of the marquee fixture. He will be assisted by Liam Moore as the video referee. For the 1895 Cup final between Sheffield Eagles and Wakefield Trinity, Tom Grant will make his Wembley debut as the referee, with no video officials present.
In a historic move, the Women’s Challenge Cup final between reigning champions St Helens and Leeds Rhinos will feature the first female referee to officiate a senior Wembley final in rugby league. Beth Neilson will serve as a touch judge, while Aaron Moore takes the whistle, with Ben Thaler as the video referee.
This year’s Challenge Cup Finals Day promises to be a thrilling showcase of the sport, with seasoned and new officiating talents overseeing the action across the various competitions.
