Rugby League’s Peerless Goal-Kicking Maestro: Marc Sneyd Shines Again for Salford Red Devils
If anyone’s reliable to kick a clutch goal from the touchline, it’s undoubtedly Salford Red Devils’ veteran playmaker Marc Sneyd. The 33-year-old has been a premier goal-kicker in British rugby league for over a decade, amassing over 1,000 career goals and 2,300 points.
Sneyd’s kicking expertise was on full display on Friday night as Salford secured a 25-14 victory over Warrington Wolves. The charismatic half-back kicked four goals, scored a try, and slotted a crucial one-pointer to seal the win, earning the Sky Sports’ man of the match award.
“He’s got a few of those (man of the match) medals now so he’s doing a great job and we’re lucky to have him,” Rowley told Sky Sports. “As far as blokes go, he is the most humble guy, and whenever we see him score a try up there (in the coaches’ box), me and Kurt (Haggerty) are so happy, we’re thinking of his smiling face.”
Sneyd’s kicking prowess is well-documented, as he and Warrington’s Stefan Ratchford shared the highest conversion rate in Super League last season at an impressive 86%. The Oldham-born veteran was responsible for almost 97% of Salford’s two-pointers in 2023, underscoring his pivotal role in the team’s success.
Currently tied for the top spot in the Steve Prescott Man of Steel rankings after 14 rounds, Sneyd’s consistent excellence has led Salford to re-sign him to a new two-year contract. His left boot is a true work of art, and it’s no wonder that rugby league enthusiasts would trust him to kick a game-winning goal from the touchline.
