Rising Talent: Louix Gorman’s Journey at Hull Kingston Rovers
** Louix Gorman**, a talented centre or full-back, is one of the many promising talents to have emerged from the esteemed academy of Hull Kingston Rovers. The 19-year-old, who was born in Hull and raised in Beverley, has already tasted Super League action and is firmly establishing himself as a player to watch in the Robins’ first-team squad.
According to Hull KR’s Head of Youth, Jason Netherton, Gorman’s dedication and professionalism have been instrumental to his development. “Louix’s an absolute consummate professional – I’ve never met a more professional player,” Netherton said. “He understands the level of commitment required to make the grade, and he’s a great example of what can be achieved through sheer desire and hard work.”
Known for his speed, strength, and versatility, Gorman has now been earmarked as a long-term full-back option for the Robins. “Full-back suits Louix because he’s very safe under the high ball, and he understands the game and can read it very well,” Netherton explained. The young star’s prowess as a goal-kicker, boasting an impressive 80-85% success rate, further enhances his value to the club.
“As a club, we could go and win a Super League title, but if we want sustained success then we have to be producing our own players,” Netherton said. “We’re starting to see the seeds of that now, and Louix is certainly one of the players we have high hopes for in the coming years.”
Gorman’s impressive performances for the Reserves last season earned him the Young Player of the Season award and a promotion to the first-team squad for the 2024 campaign. Alongside fellow academy graduates Lennie Ellis and Harvey Horne, the youngster is part of Rovers’ succession plan as they aim to build a sustainable future through homegrown talent.
The young star’s development has also been aided by a dual-registration spell with Featherstone Rovers in the Championship, where he has been gaining valuable experience playing “with men against men in a tough league.” Gorman has also represented Yorkshire Academy, Ireland Under-19s, and England Academy, further showcasing his talent on the international stage.
With Gorman’s younger brother, Alex, also impressing in Hull KR’s Scholarship program and tipped to be even better than Louix was at the same age, the Robins faithful can look forward to the prospect of witnessing the Gorman siblings leading the charge for the club in the years to come.
