London Broncos Secure Historic Home Victory Over Catalans Dragons
In a significant milestone for the London Broncos, the club secured their first-ever home win against the visiting Catalans Dragons at their Plough Lane stadium. This triumph marks the Broncos’ first home success over the French outfit in over 14 years.
The Broncos, who had previously beaten Catalans twice in Perpignan back in 2019, finally managed to overcome the “Catalans curse” on home soil. Out of the 12 previous home meetings between the two sides, London had only emerged victorious on four occasions, all of which came during their time as the Harlequins RL.
“This landmark win for the Broncos comes over 14 years after their previous home success against the Dragons, which was a 16-4 triumph on Valentine’s Day 2010 when the club was still known as Harlequins RL.”
However, Sunday’s 12-10 nail-biter against the Dragons has now etched the Broncos’ name in the history books. Leigh Leopards loanee Jacob Jones scored the only try of the first half, allowing the hosts to take a 6-0 lead into the break.
After Jarrod Wallace equalized for Catalans, Jarred Bassett’s late try proved to be the difference-maker, as the Broncos held on to secure a hard-fought two-point victory. Despite a late Dragons try from Fouad Yaha, the capital club’s resolute defense ensured they maintained their slim lead until the final whistle.
