Leigh Leopards Remain Tight-Lipped on Rumored Signings
Leigh Leopards head coach Adrian Lam has remained tight-lipped on reports that the club is set to sign Newcastle Knights full-back David Armstrong. Earlier this season, it was suggested that the 23-year-old Papua New Guinean was being lined up as a replacement for the injured winger Tom Briscoe.
In March, Lam had confirmed the club’s openness to exploring all options, and in April, he publicly expressed interest in Armstrong, stating that the Knights’ speedster would be a “really good fit” for Leigh’s style of play. However, the 53-year-old coach has now adopted a more reserved stance, refusing to comment on any player rumors or speculation.
“It’s just club policy that we don’t discuss those sorts of rumours or speculation about players that are linked to our club,” Lam told the press. “If there’s any further information to add, then I’m sure we’ll let anyone else know as soon as it happens.”
The Leopards’ head coach was similarly tight-lipped when asked about the reported signing of Melbourne Storm forward Aaron Pene, who is believed to be Leigh-bound. Lam reiterated the club’s policy of not commenting on potential player movements, whether arrivals or departures.
Despite the silence on specific player deals, Lam acknowledged that Leigh Leopards are actively engaged in the processes of retention and recruitment. “It’s probably quite well known now that there are a few players that I believe are leaving the club,” he said. “We’re always talking and communicating, and the process of retention and recruitment is always ongoing.”
The Leopards have already confirmed the departures of overseas stars John Asiata, Tom Amone, and Kai O’Donnell, while Ricky Leutele was also named as a player the club had not offered a contract to.
