Rugby League Recap: Leigh Leopards Secure Victory, but Suffer Injury Blow
In an eventful weekend for the Leigh Leopards, the team secured a resounding 40-12 victory against the Salford Red Devils on Friday evening. However, the triumph was marred by an unfortunate injury to new recruit Louis Brogan.
Brogan, who made his debut off the bench in Leigh’s previous draw with the Castleford Tigers, was denied a try in front of the North Stand by the video referee before being withdrawn. It has now been confirmed by Leopards boss Adrian Lam that the 24-year-old forward is facing a spell of four to six weeks on the sidelines due to a “Syndesmosis ankle injury”.
“It’s just incredible, so unfortunate for him because it was his debut. I don’t want to tempt fate, but a few of the players that have made their debut here have been injured long-term,” Lam expressed.
Despite the setback, the Leopards put on an impressive display, scoring seven tries to overcome the Red Devils comfortably. Gareth O’Brien, Nathan Wilde, and club captain John Asiata are among the other Leopards players currently sidelined due to injuries.
The Leigh Leopards will be hoping to maintain their momentum as they look to build on their third Super League win of the season, while also managing the injury concerns within the squad.
