Rugby League Transfer Madness: Leigh Leopards Flex Muscles in Offseason
The Leigh Leopards have been making waves in the rugby league transfer market, showing no signs of slowing down their activity during the international break. Earlier this week, the Leopards landed a major coup, outbidding the Newcastle Knights to secure the services of flying Australian full-back David Armstrong for the 2025 season. Joining the Leopards’ roster, Papua New Guinea international Jack de Belin has also revealed that he is currently considering multiple offers from Super League clubs for the upcoming season.
However, the Leopards have also confirmed the departures of several high-profile players, including John Asiata, Tom Amone, and Kai O’Donnell, who are all set to leave the club for the 2025 season. Names like Zak Hardaker, Oliver Holmes, and Ricky Leutele have also been linked with potential moves away from Leigh for the same season.
“The Leigh Leopards’ transfer activity, both in terms of incoming and outgoing players, showcases the club’s ambition and willingness to shape their roster for the 2025 season.”
In a further twist, the Leopards have announced that one of their own players, Keanan Brand, will be rejoining his former club, the Widnes Vikings, on a short-term loan deal as he continues his recovery from a serious injury. Brand, who began his professional career with the Vikings, will spend one month on loan with the club, providing him with an opportunity to regain match fitness.
Commenting on the loan move, Leigh’s head of rugby, Chris Chester, emphasized the importance of this step for Brand’s rehabilitation process. Chester noted that the club has been pleased with the progress made by other players, Louis Brogan and Tom Nisbet, during their time on loan with Widnes, making it the “perfect place” for Brand to gain competitive minutes and continue his return to full fitness.
As the international break provides a temporary pause in the action, the Leopards’ fans eagerly await to see what other moves the club will make in the coming weeks.
