Leigh Leopards Bounce Back After Challenging Start
The Leigh Leopards have endured a difficult beginning to their season, plagued by a string of injuries that have hampered their progress. As the reigning Challenge Cup champions, the Leopards have managed just two victories in their opening eight games.
However, the team’s fortunes appear to be turning around, as they recently delivered an emphatic win over the Catalans Dragons, suggesting they have weathered the storm. Coach Adriam Lam has been instrumental in the Leopards’ recent success, having taken over the club during their Championship days and guiding them through an unprecedented period of achievement.
Lam’s impressive work at Leigh has not gone unnoticed, with reports suggesting he is being considered as a potential option to take over the South Sydney Rabbitohs following the departure of their head coach, Jason Demetriou. While Lam remains focused on his five-year plan at Leigh, he acknowledged that he would always consider new opportunities as they arise.
“Where we’ve taken it to over the last two-and-a-half years has been incredible, and I’ve enjoyed every moment of it,” Lam said. “There is a five-year plan that we have here at the club, and that’s on track for where it needs to be, so my focus is solely here. If something comes up from that way, as any normal person would do, you look at what the opportunity is and then make decisions moving forward from there.”
Lam expressed his fondness for Leigh, stating that his heart remains with the club and that he hopes the journey can continue.
“But I know that my heart is here at the moment, it’s been an amazing journey so far and long may that continue.”
The link to an NRL job is a testament to Lam’s hard work and the recognition it has garnered.
“I think it’s nice to be thought about over there with all the hard work that we’ve done here, it’s good to be acknowledged, and I think I’ve done my apprenticeship!” Lam said.
Discussions over a new contract with Leigh are ongoing, and Lam is hopeful that the matter will be resolved within the next few weeks, allowing him to focus on continuing the Leopards’ success.
