Leigh Leopards’ Remarkable Resurgence: Adrian Lam Hails Players’ Resilience in Play-off Push
Leigh Leopards’ head coach Adrian Lam has praised his players’ resilience and unwavering belief as they have turned their season around and firmly positioned themselves in the race for the Super League play-offs.
After a difficult start to the campaign, which saw the Leopards win just one of their opening nine games, the team has found their stride in the second half of the season. Friday’s 16-12 victory over Warrington Wolves marked Leigh’s eighth win in their last nine matches, propelling them into the top six with three games remaining.
“It’d be massive,” Lam said when questioned about the significance of making the play-offs, given their struggles earlier in the year. “After nine games, I think we were one win out of nine. If you’d have told me then, ‘with three games to go, we’re going to slide you into the top six’, after the start we’d had, then we’d have probably taken it at that stage.”
The Papua New Guinean coach acknowledged the team’s resilience and refusal to give up, even during the injury-ravaged first half of the season. “We’re not finished yet,” he added, “I still think we’ve got our best rugby ahead of us.”
Lam’s side now face a crucial run-in, with away trips to Castleford and home fixtures against Hull KR and St Helens, as they seek to secure a second consecutive play-off berth. The Leopards’ boss is determined to keep his players grounded, stressing that they will not “accept anything less than the standards we’ve set over the second half of the season.”
As the rugby league season enters its final stretch, the Leigh Leopards’ remarkable turnaround has captured the attention of fans and pundits alike. With the play-offs now firmly in their sights, Adrian Lam and his players will look to maintain their impressive form and secure a place in the knockout stages.
