Rugby League Update: Leigh Leopards Prepare for Leeds Rhinos Clash
Leigh Leopards coach Adrian Lam has provided an injury update on key players John Asiata, Robbie Mulhern, and Keanan Brand ahead of their upcoming match against the Leeds Rhinos on Friday.
Influential captain Asiata has been limited to just three appearances this season due to a hamstring injury, with his last game being the win over Catalans Dragons on April 26. However, Lam is hopeful that Asiata will be available for the round 16 clash against local rivals Wigan Warriors on July 5.
Similarly, England international prop Mulhern has been in and out of the side this season due to calf issues. Lam confirmed that neither Asiata nor Mulhern will feature against the Rhinos, but he expects them to be available for the Wigan match.
Utility-back Brand, who suffered a knee injury in their Challenge Cup win over Featherstone Rovers on March 23, is nearing the end of his recovery process. Lam stated that Brand could return either this week or next week, meaning he should be in contention for action in the next two weeks.
The Leigh coach acknowledged the importance of Asiata and Mulhern to the team, saying, “The players that are left to come back, Robbie Mulhern and John Asiata, two of our most important players.” He is hopeful that with the international break after the Leeds game, the duo will be ready to join the squad for the Wigan match.
As Leigh Leopards look to continue their strong start to the season, the return of these key players will be a significant boost as they aim to secure another victory against the Leeds Rhinos.
