Leigh Leopards Hopeful Adrian Lam Will Stay Amid Hull FC Interest
Leigh Leopards are optimistic that head coach Adrian Lam will remain at the club, despite an approach from Hull FC to acquire his services, Love Rugby League has learned.
Sky Sports presenter Brian Carney revealed during Friday night’s match between Warrington Wolves and Hull that the Black and Whites had contacted Lam, inquiring about the possibility of him succeeding Tony Smith as the team’s new head coach.
Lam’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the ongoing season, but Leigh is hopeful he will stay and continue their long-term plans for the club. The Leopards are confident Lam will not follow in the footsteps of their captain, John Asiata, who recently signed a lucrative marquee deal with Hull FC.
“My focus is solely here. If something comes up from that way, as any normal person would do, you look at what the opportunity is and then make decisions moving forward from there. But I know that my heart is here at the moment, it’s been an amazing journey so far and long may that continue.”
When asked about his future this week, Lam acknowledged the speculation surrounding his potential move to NRL club South Sydney Rabbitohs, but emphasized his commitment to Leigh.
Leigh are optimistic that Lam will decide to extend his stay with the Leopards beyond the current campaign, instead of opting to join the Airlie Birds.
