Leigh Leopards Coach Adrian Lam Addresses South Sydney Rabbitohs Rumors

Leigh Leopards Head Coach Adrian Lam Committed to Club’s Five-Year Plan Amidst Souths Speculation

Lam Addresses Potential Move to South Sydney Rabbitohs

Adrian Lam, the head coach of the Leigh Leopards, has acknowledged the speculation surrounding a potential move to the South Sydney Rabbitohs. However, he insists that his focus remains firmly on fulfilling the club’s five-year plan.

Lam’s contract at Leigh is set to expire at the end of the 2024 season, and with Souths recently parting ways with Jason Demetriou, reports have linked the 53-year-old to the vacant head coaching role in Australia. However, the Papua New Guinean tactician has not been in direct contact with the Rabbitohs and maintains that his heart is with the Leopards.

“I’ve not had a phone call with them (Souths) at all, and what I do know is that I love this club here at the moment,” Lam told Love Rugby League. “Where we’ve taken it to over the last two-and-a-half years has been incredible, and I’ve enjoyed every moment of it.”

Lam’s Achievements at Leigh

Lam, who previously held assistant roles in the NRL and second-grade coaching positions in Australia, has guided Leigh to impressive achievements:

  • Promoted the team in his first season in charge
  • Lifted the 1895 Cup
  • Secured the team’s historic Challenge Cup triumph this year
  • Achieved their first-ever play-off finish in Super League

These accomplishments have further cemented Lam’s reputation as a talented coach.

Committed to Leigh’s Five-Year Plan

Despite the speculation, Lam remains committed to the project at Leigh and the club’s five-year plan.

“There is a five-year plan that we have here at the club, and that’s on track for where it needs to be, so my focus is solely here,” Lam explained. “If something comes up from that way, as any normal person would do, you look at what the opportunity is and then make decisions moving forward from there.”

Lam acknowledged that being linked to the Rabbitohs vacancy is a testament to the progress Leigh has made under his stewardship. However, he is confident that his long-term future at the club will be resolved in the coming weeks.

“For me, I’m sure things (contract-wise at Leigh) will happen and get finalised over the next couple of weeks,” Lam concluded.
