Leeds Rhinos Seek to Ride Momentum Against Catalans Dragons
The Leeds Rhinos will be looking to build on their recent back-to-back victories over Hull FC and London Broncos as they travel to face the Catalans Dragons this weekend. Despite sitting just two points outside the playoff positions, it’s been a rollercoaster season so far for the Rhinos, with fans frequently calling for head coach Rohan Smith’s dismissal.
Those calls were particularly loud during the win over Hull FC, with a section of the Leeds faithful chanting “We want Rohan out.” Smith had previously attributed post-match boos at Headingley to fans’ frustration with the referees’ performance, following losses to Huddersfield Giants where the Rhinos surrendered double-digit leads.
However, the consecutive wins over the league’s bottom two sides have helped ease tensions, and it’s expected that over 1,000 Rhinos supporters will make the trip to Perpignan to cheer on their team. This would mark one of the biggest away followings in Super League this season, surpassing the strong support shown by the likes of Salford Red Devils, St Helens, and Hull KR.
Despite their inconsistent form, the Rhinos will be looking to do the double over the Dragons, having defeated them 24-18 in their Round 3 clash. A victory this weekend would be the first time Leeds have recorded three consecutive wins this campaign, a feat that would be particularly impressive given their lengthy injury list.
“With key players such as Brodie Croft, Harry Newman, and Riley Lumb unavailable, the Rhinos will rely on the experienced duo of Jack Sinfield and Matt Frawley to guide them in the halves.”
The bookmakers have installed the Dragons as heavy favorites, making the expected strong support from the Leeds faithful all the more remarkable.
