Leeds Rhinos Scrape Past Hull FC Amid Rohan Smith Controversy
In a tightly contested affair, Leeds Rhinos emerged victorious over a struggling Hull FC side, winning 18-12. However, the nature of the performance left many Leeds fans dissatisfied, with chants calling for head coach Rohan Smith to be sacked echoing through the stands.
Despite Hull FC’s recent struggles, where they have conceded 50 or more points in four of their last five games, including a 110-point hammering in their previous two home matches, Leeds Rhinos were unable to run up the score as many had anticipated. Sky Sports pundit Sam Tomkins had even predicted a 40-point victory for the Rhinos, but the final result was a far cry from that.
“The 18-12 win was the lowest scoring game Hull FC has been involved in this season, leaving Leeds Rhinos fans underwhelmed.”
Chants demanding Rohan Smith’s dismissal were heard during the game and continued after the final whistle, with the coach acknowledging the “discontent” among the traveling supporters.
Smith, who is the nephew of recently sacked Hull FC coach Tony Smith, claimed he didn’t fully understand the chants due to his “not-so-great hearing” from “too many concerts in [his] younger days.” However, he admitted being aware of the fans’ displeasure with the team’s performance.
The pressure is mounting on Rohan Smith, despite Leeds Rhinos currently sitting just one win outside the playoffs and two wins off the Super League summit. With one Super League coach already sacked this season, the Australian tactician will be hoping to turn things around quickly to appease the demanding Leeds faithful.
