The Leeds Rhinos Pay Tribute to Club Legend Rob Burrow This Weekend
The Leeds Rhinos will continue their heartfelt tribute to club icon Rob Burrow this weekend as they welcome the Leigh Leopards to AMT Headingley in Super League action. To honor Burrow’s lasting legacy, the Rhinos will don a special commemorative jersey, with all proceeds going towards raising funds for causes related to motor neurone disease (MND).
Leeds’ recent on-field struggles continued earlier this week, as they suffered a shock defeat against Hull FC. However, the Rhinos faithful are anticipated to pack out Headingley, eager to witness a vastly improved performance that can lift the gloom surrounding the club.
In a poignant gesture, the Rhinos have now unveiled their plans for the iconic number 7 shirt, which Burrow made his own over the course of his illustrious career. Despite calls from some fans to retire the shirt as a permanent tribute, the club has confirmed that it will remain in use, serving as “a reminder of the legendary player for generations to come”.
“Starting this weekend, all players donning the number 7 jersey, including Matt Frawley and Caitlin Casey, will bear Burrow’s signature and number 7 logo. This special tribute will be replicated across the Rhinos’ men’s and women’s academy, reserves, and scholarship teams, as well as their wheelchair, PDRL, and LDSL squads.”
The news was announced during the Sky Sports broadcast of Leeds’ defeat against Hull FC earlier this week, with reporter Jenna Brooks detailing the club’s plans to honor their beloved rugby league icon Rob Burrow.
