Honoring the Legacy of Leeds Rhinos Legend Rob Burrow
On June 21st, the Leeds Rhinos will honor the memory of their beloved club legend, Rob Burrow, as they take on the Leigh Leopards at Headingley Stadium. This fixture, coinciding with Global MND Awareness Day, holds special significance for the Rhinos, who have been at the forefront of efforts to celebrate Burrow’s life and achievements.
Emotional Tribute to a Cherished Friend
The match will be an emotional occasion for the Rhinos faithful, as Burrow’s former teammates return to the field to commemorate their friend. The club has once again collaborated with Sky Sports to bring a series of features that will raise awareness about Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a cause close to Burrow’s heart.
Commemorative Fundraising Shirt
To mark the occasion, the Rhinos will don a special fundraising shirt designed by Cath Muir, who was diagnosed with MND in 2014. The kit, featuring an iconic image of Burrow alongside his friend Kevin Sinfield, showcases the bold MND-related colors and Cath’s drawing of the blue cornflower, a symbol of hope for those living with the devastating disease.
“The shirt design pays tribute to Burrow’s legacy, with £10 from the sale of each jersey being donated to the Leeds Hospitals Charity appeal to build the Rob Burrow Centre for MND. This initiative aligns with the kit designers, Oxen, who have made donations totaling £150,000 since 2020 to support the cause.”
As the Rhinos return to Headingley for their first home game since Burrow’s passing, the club’s efforts to celebrate his life and raise awareness about MND will undoubtedly resonate with rugby league enthusiasts and the wider community.
