Leeds Rhinos Star Brodie Croft’s Future Sparks Conflicting Reports

Conflicting reports have emerged surrounding the future of Leeds Rhinos’ star half-back Brodie Croft. While earlier reports suggested the former Man of Steel was keen to return to the NRL in 2025, a new twist has emerged that could see him remain at AMT Headingley for at least one more season.

Croft was recently named as a player of interest to the St. George Illawarra Dragons, who were looking to replace the outgoing Ben Hunt. The Rhinos half-back was among a five-man shortlist that also included Wigan’s Bevan French, though the latter will not be leaving the reigning Super League champions.

However, the player’s future has taken a turn, with conflicting reports from various sources. The Yorkshire Evening Post confirmed that Croft did have a release clause in his contract, allowing a potential return to the NRL in 2025. But that deadline has now passed, meaning he is likely to stay with the Rhinos for the foreseeable future.

“Contradictorily, Wide World of Sports in Australia suggested that Croft is the ‘firm favourite’ to replace Hunt at the Dragons next year, and that the player is keen to return home. This has led to speculation that a deal could be in the works.”

However, the Rhinos’ sporting director, Ian Blease, has stated that the club has no intention of letting Croft leave, and that the release clause in his contract has not been activated for the 2024 season. This indicates that the experienced half-back will almost certainly remain a Rhino for at least one more year.

Croft is expected to play a crucial role in the Rhinos’ quest to reclaim their place among the top teams in Super League under the guidance of new head coach Brad Arthur in the 2025 campaign.
