Rugby League: Leeds Rhinos Bounce Back with Improved Performance Against London Broncos
In a recent Rugby League encounter, the Leeds Rhinos showcased an enhanced gameplay, securing a victory over the London Broncos. This comes as a relief for head coach Rohan Smith, who had faced criticism following a lackluster performance in the team’s previous win over Hull FC.
The Rhinos’ triumph over London has helped alleviate some of the pressure on the squad. Notably, the decision to bench Matt Frawley in favor of youngster Jack Sinfield appeared to pay dividends, as Leeds demonstrated more cohesion in their attacking play.
The back-to-back wins have propelled the Rhinos to seventh place in the league standings, just two points off the top spot, with the leading pack all tied on 14 points. However, the team has been hampered by a string of injuries to key players, including Harry Newman, Paul Momirovski, and David Fusitu’a in the backline, as well as Tom Holroyd, James Bentley, and Morgan Gannon in the forward pack, all of whom are sidelined due to head injuries.

Adding to their woes, the Rhinos lost two more pivotal players to injury during the London match. In his pre-match press conference, Smith provided an update on the fitness of these players ahead of their upcoming clash with the Catalans Dragons.
Notably, the coach confirmed that youngster Riley Lumb faces a lengthy layoff after suffering a “decent hamstring” injury, which may require surgery. Additionally, Paul Momirovski is expected to be out for up to six weeks, although he is recovering well.
While the news on Lumb’s injury was disappointing, Smith expressed the team’s commitment to supporting the player through his rehabilitation. The coach also revealed that Brodie Croft, who starred in the victory over London, is dealing with a minor groin issue that will keep him out of this weekend’s game, but he is expected to return after the upcoming break.
Despite the mounting injury concerns, the Leeds Rhinos have demonstrated their resilience and ability to rebound from past setbacks. With Sinfield and Frawley set to feature prominently in the upcoming match, the team will be hoping to build on their recent success and continue their push towards the top of the table.
