Rugby League’s International Spotlight Shines on Las Vegas in 2025
In a historic move, the 2025 rugby league calendar has been expanded to include an international double-header between the USA and Greece, set to take place in Las Vegas as part of the NRL’s annual festival.
USA vs. Greece: A Historic Clash
On Friday, February 28, 2025, the USA and Greece will make history as their men’s and women’s teams face off for the first time ever. This thrilling clash will precede two NRL games, a Super League matchup, and a women’s Test between England and Australia at the Allegiant Stadium the following day.
“Competing against Greece presents a significant opportunity for our players to test their skills. This fixture is crucial for offering valuable experiences and growth opportunities to our homegrown talent, challenging them beyond the domestic environment.” – Sean Rutgerson, USA men’s coach
Ahead of the Las Vegas showdown, the USA men’s team will embark on a two-match Test series in South Africa this December, honing their skills in preparation for the highly anticipated clash with Greece.
Excitement Across the Board
USA women’s coach Ady Cooney is eager to see how her side stacks up against Greece. “We’re super excited to play Greece. It’s going to be a great test for us and we’ll get to see how we stack up against a team that’s been competing regularly.”
Greece men’s coach Steve Georgallis also shared his enthusiasm, saying, “We’re really looking forward to travelling to Las Vegas. We are planning a training run with the newly formed Los Angeles Roosters, which our main sponsor Nick Politis is also involved with. With many of our players near retirement age, this is a great opportunity to have a look at our next generation of players coming through.”
A Spectacle in Las Vegas
The 2025 Las Vegas rugby league festival will be a true spectacle, with the international double-header between the USA and Greece kicking off the action on Friday, February 28. The following day will feature a Super League clash between Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves, two NRL matches, and a women’s Test between Australia and England.
